Bev Malzard, Australian Editor and Travel Writer
Bev Malzard has been a journalist for more years than she will admit too and she loves the magazine industry. However, when not writing and getting her successful magazine, Get up and Go happening, she can be found in the air, on the rails, at sea or on the road.
Bev loves discovering the world – and she has been lucky enough to have visited many countries and cities over the years – and, she especially loves sitting comfortably having a posh afternoon tea, somewhere nice "all in the name of research of course," she tells us.
Here she shares some of her favourite travel destinations – beware though they can change within a heartbeat…
"Just when I think Europe and I have had our day together, Tuscany and Provence return to entice me – and I fall in love again. I’ve just finished writing up a story on San Gimignano, a famous hilltop town in Tuscany – renowned for tall towers and gelato!"
"Recently a new affair with Taiwan sprung up. We knew nothing about each other, but it was love at first bite! Recently I had a second visit to India – and I’m feeling the love. What an extraordinary experience India is – for the eyes and the soul. Vietnam continues to intrigue me with its pragmatism and colour; Austria and I have a special bond but, Glasgow is my BFF at the moment and my spiritual home is Greece…but that trip to Istanbul…"
Bev goes on to tell us that she loves the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong "for its luxury, history and gentle service plus the Spring Moon restaurant – ah!"
"One of the best beds (and I am a pillow kind of person) I’ve slept in was the Langham Melbourne after enjoying their amazing high tea. It was like floating on a cloud. However, the most charming bedroom I've slept in was at the wonderful Fawsley Hall in Daventry, England. A masterpiece Tudor House with my room overlooking the Capability Brown designed gardens… but the Burj Al Arab in Dubai is pretty spesh too, but then again, the funky Topaz in Viennna is fun..."
One thing Bev is sure about is her vacation tip for recommending an activity to do no matter where in the world and, it is guarenteed to put you on the right track:
"In a new city I always jump on a tourist hop-on-hop-off bus to get my bearings. It also raises my excitement levels of exploring any new territory."
