Jane Barnes

Jane Barnes always says she is blessed to be a wife, mother and grandmother.

Married to James Dixon Swan, better known as Australian rock legend, Jimmy Barnes, a Scottish-born Australian rock singer-songwriter her life is surrounded by music.      When not travelling on the road with Jimmy, they love to go on holiday and one of her favourite vacation spots is Hua Hin, in Thailand.

When we caught up with Jane she explained why it just keeps drawing her back…

Jane says  "I have been going there for 50 years.  Back in the day it was a small seaside village where the Thai's from Bangkok would holiday.  It is a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive south of Bangkok and it is a very easy transfer from the airport or the capital.

The best thing about a Thai holiday is the people. After all it is The Land of Smiles. The Thai people are so gentle, respectful and happy and the service there is hard to beat anywhere in the world.

The King of Thailand also has his palace in Hua Hin and I believe because of that the food and culture in Hua Him is supreme.  I have found some of the best Thai dishes in the world there, from simple chicken & rice to sticky rice & mango. 

A must see are the morning and night markets, they are colourful and pungent and the food is delicious and inexpensive.   For those not so adventurous there are German bakeries and Italian cafes, great Japanese and Chinese options available too.

You can find accommodation across all price ranges and the spa treatments range from a 100baht massage on the beach to your 7 star sessions at Chiva Som Health resort – a personal favourite.

Hua Hin is such a great family beach holiday, plenty of activities are available including horse riding, kite surfing, banana boat rides or just reading a good book in the shade of a beach umbrella.  In the surrounding area there are beautiful temples to visit, elephants to ride and if you love golf there are several, world class courses -all affordable and uncrowded.

Our family loves going there. We even celebrated Jimmy's 50th birthday and two of our children's weddings there."
