Australian author and ambassador for health and wellness, Kylie Nation, loves nothing more than stepping out in nature and finding new places to explore. She believes that making time to travel and indulge your senses in new experiences is absolutely essential for good health and well-being.

Born in Chicago, Kylie grew up in Adelaide, and now resides in the idyllic beachside town of Salt, Kingscliff in Northern NSW with her husband and daughter.

With stunning world-renowned beaches and rainforests at our doorstep and an amazing climate, we are constantly in awe of the natural beauty that surrounds us, and don’t often feel the need to escape or venture far away.

When you live in a place you love, with so many fantastic creeks, beaches and mountains to explore, it’s easy to feel like you are on holidays even without venturing far from home.

Some of our favourite holiday experiences have been local ones – Byron Bay beach and hinterland, the gorgeous surrounds of Mount Tamborine, or a couple of hours drive north to the beautiful Sunshine Coast.

The Byron at Byron Resort and Spa is a beautiful place to stay or visit in Byron Bay – set within a stunning 45 acre rainforest, it’s a fantastic place to unwind, and with a focus on fresh, locally farmed produce, the restaurant is lovely too.

Outside of our backyard, my favourite vacation spot is Royal Davui Island, an exclusive adults-only sanctuary situated in Fiji’s Beqa lagoon. We were lucky enough to enjoy our honeymoon there, and with just 16 exquisitely appointed Vales nestled around 10 acres of lush tropical landscape, it is the perfect romantic getaway, and somewhere we’ll be going back to for sure!

Since opening in 2004, Royal Davui Island is recognised as one of the top 10 hotels in the world, and was also recently named “Best Luxury Accommodation” in the ACN Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards. And with good reason…

A short plane or helicopter trip from Nadi airport, visiting Royal Davui Island really is like stepping into your own tropical oasis, with just the right combination of personal attention from the friendly staff, and privacy and freedom to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the natural surrounds.

Each Vale has amazing views and you really can do as much or as little as you like. A visit to the deserted sand quay for a picnic is a must – within 7 minutes you can be escorted to an exquisite tidal islet and left to enjoy a picnic with your loved one. With the crystal clear water and your own stretch of amazingly white sand, it really is one of the most surreal experiences ever and something you will never forget.

We all live such busy lives and it’s easy to lose perspective on what’s really important, and unless we take time to re-charge ourselves, we set ourselves on the path to burn-out and fatigue.

Taking a holistic approach to our health and well-being means looking after ourselves physically, spiritually and emotionally, and travelling to new places is just one way you can refresh your whole outlook on life.

Travel gives you the chance to tune-out from daily pressures and tune-in to the big things again – the amazing world we live in and the beautiful people and blessings in your life.

Plan your experience: I am amazed that some people spend longer planning their holidays than they do planning and enjoying their life.

While the holiday destination is important, it’s how we feel when we are there that makes it memorable. Intention is an amazing thing, and if you decide in advance the key qualities your holiday will have – whether it be peace, beauty, adventure or romance – it’s amazing how you’ll find your own ways to create that feeling and how much more refreshed you’ll feel when you get home. I say look for the holiday in every moment because this moment is your life!
