Laguna Phuket – More Bang for your Baht!

When Laguna Resorts & Hotels took over an abandoned tin mine at Bangtao Bay in 1984, the site resembled a moonscape.

The ground was pockmarked with craters and littered with piles of blackened soil, discarded machinery and ramshackle huts. However, a remarkable vision has brought the ravaged wasteland back from the dead. And boy is it back!

Laguna, Phuket is a complete destination resort. Located on the west coast of Phuket Island, Thailand. The resort spans 1,000 acres complete with idyllic tropical parklands, scenic lakes and an 8km stretch of white sandy beach is right along the front. Located just 20 minutes drive from Phuket International Airport its 7 properties offer something for every family’s budget.

Two properties that seem to have the mix completely right, by offering relaxation for mum and dad, activities for children of all ages from toddlers and pre-schoolers, primary schoolers right through to teenagers are Angsana and Dusit Thani. I can guarantee you’ll never hear the words “I’m bored” while staying at either of these properties.

Both properties have wonderful swimming pools, direct beach access, various dining choices, kids clubs, direct access to local beach markets and stunning high vaulted ceilings in their welcoming, open-air lobbies.

During the daytime, families will enjoy the spacious lounge area, which can be turned into a bed for two children during the night. The Angsana Two Bedroom Loft, spanning four levels, is located alongside the lagoon. The loft provides generous living spaces for families with sufficient room for parents’ privacy, complemented by a roof top terrace.
  • A 323-metre free form pool, which spans the entire resort, offers plenty of room for swimming, exploring and playing.
  • The TreeHouse Kids Club offers generous play space for children spread over two storeys. Designed for play and a fun learning environment, the club features four separate areas linked by a covered walkway leading to a kid’s library, arts and crafts area, kid’s café and internet/video corner. The TreeHouse Café, located on the second floor, serves a variety of all-time favourites including hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream and milkshakes. The latest versions of Wii, Play Station 3, and Kinect XBOX are also available – a big hit with teenagers – and in the outdoor area, three different playgrounds offer catering to three different age groups: one to three, four to 12, and 13 to 15 years old.

FantaSea Show, Kamala Beach

The first thing that hits you is the size of this Las Vegas-style show and the grounds it takes up. Before the show you can have dinner, visit the market stalls, ride an elephant, be photographed with various baby animals or shop in the Disney-like stores. The show itself is wacky and fun. All professionally done, trapeze artists, singers, dancers and pyrotechnics combine with up to 16 live elephants on stage at any one time. You'll see nothing else like it anywhere on the planet.
