The Blue Mountains offers a unique travel destination, with each season offering its own highlights. Whether visiting Echo Point to admire the staggering Three Sisters and the Jamison Valley, visiting the stunning and well kept Everglades Gardens, bush walking, golfing or indulging at its local restaurants, pubs or wine bars, there is always something new to explore or discover.
When looking for somewhere to stay Vacation Goddess highly recommends Mountain Whispers, a boutique collection of four award-winning luxury properties located in the world-heritage listed, Blue Mountains. An easy 1 1/2 hours drive from Sydney the four, meticulously restored homes, Varenna, Strawberry Patch, Leura Rose and The Gatsby provide luxury, comfort and a tranquil escape from the stresses of daily life.
Owner, Lorraine Allanson, has developed and restored the homes herself using warm colours, rich textured fabrics, custom made drapery, artwork, furniture and cushions to create unique settings that take you back to an elegant era, full of grace and style.
Each home has it's own personality and provides everything you could possibly want or need, right down to fluffy robes and slippers, 1000 count Egyptian cotton sheets, complimentary WiFi, chocolate, fresh flowers, wine, port and all the provisions needed for making a delicious breakfast.
The homes are rented exclusively (so you don't share with strangers) and, in addition to the above, Lorraine can provide indulgent options to further enhance a stay. Arriving late? Not a problem. A scrumptious gourmet food platter can be waiting. Don't fancy going out for dinner? Why not let their in-house chef prepare a three course dinner with waiter service. Fancy a massage, a facial, chauffeur service and a glass of Moet on pick up or a private helicopter ride over the mountains? Just ask and it can be arranged.
The homes are suitable for romantic weekends away, girly getaways or for a group of friends to travel and stay together.
Varenna accommodates one to three couples and has two bathrooms, one with a spa and one with an antique claw-foot bath. Lorraine explains "Varenna was my dream. I had a longing desire to sympathetically recreate a luxurious experience of yesteryear that was once only available to the refined and affluent." The house is perfectly positioned just a two minute stroll to Leura Village. A new recent addition to this property is La Bella Rouge – a gorgeous self standing room in the gardens at the rear of the property – where facials and massages can be arranged in front of a gorgeous roaring fire.
Lorraine's Leura Rose has long been popular with couples, with numerous proposals taking place there each year. "To me the epitome of romance is the red rose. With that in mind, my vision for Leura Rose was born." The home accommodates up to three couples and the dedicated double-spa, complete with gas log fire and heated floor, is just stunning.
With The Gatsby guests are transported back in time to the roaring 1920's. The Blue Mountains flourished in the Art Deco era, evidence of which can be found dotted around Katoomba. "Putting the Edwardian world aside and paying homage to one of my favourite movies, The Great Gatsby, my rendition transports guests there from their very first step into the property." This home, just minutes from major sights and Katoomba town, offers two bedrooms and bathrooms in the main house with the benefit of an additional, self-contained luxury garden cottage.
Finally but certainly not least you might find Strawberry Patch to your liking. It's a century-old, classic weatherboard mountain cottage that accommodates one or two couples. "My vision was to create an environment of coming together, while leaving the busy world behind – a little slice of secluded paradise. It's all about the romance," says Lorraine.
