Authentic Thai Cuisine Served at ‘Spice I am’ in Sydney, Australia

Thai cuisine is renowned for its freshness and aromatic pungent flavour and that’s exactly what you get from talented ‘Spice I am’ chef/co-owner, Sujet Saenkham in any of his multi-award winning Sydney restaurants.

Serving possibly some of the best Thai food outside of Thailand ‘Spice I Am’ now features four restaurants in Sydney – Surry Hills, Darlinghurst, Balmain, and their north-eastern Thai street-food restaurant, “House” which is also in Surry Hills.

Recently we had the pleasure of dining at Sujet's Darlinghurst restaurant.  From the moment you arrive you just have the feeling you are in for something special.  The restaurant has a very upscale, elegant and chic interior yet the vibe is relaxed and welcoming and, the staff are young, friendly and eager to please.

Before sitting down to dine, you can if you wish, have a drink at their gorgeous cocktail bar and, if you have something to celebrate it’s good to know the restaurant also boasts an intimate private room that would be perfect for a private group of friends or colleagues to dine in together.

From spicy, rich coconut curries, to cracking salads and crispy, spectacular, stir-fries the choice of dishes are many and varied and all use fresh, quality ingredients – something Sujet is especially passionate about.

Just some of the delicious items we enjoyed included fritters of green school prawns on crispy betel leaf with chilli sauce, crushed roasted cashew nut and coriander; a very tasty prawn fried rice with egg, crab meat, garlic and spring onion; some stir fried crispy pork belly wok-tossed with ‘Spice I am’ chilli jam and cherry tomatoes.  We also couldn’t go past trying their signature Massaman beef curry. Served in a thick, mild, coconut curry with onion, potatoes and peanuts it provided us with some of the most tender chunks of beef we have ever eaten.

While you could choose their signature warm baked soft chocolate cake served with vanilla gelato for desert – or many others – we just had to try their BTS (Better Than Sex.)  This toasted brioche served with pandan gelato was topped with Thai caramel sauce and roasted black and white sesame seeds and was sublime.
